Yardley Gobion and Stoke Bruerne

A wet start, with patches of blue. the view towards Yardley Gobion was like a watercolour of what estate agents would call "unspoiled" countryside.

Paired up with a boat full of retired fireman through the locks up to Stoke Bruerne so had an easy ride. Found a nice peaceful mooring for a couple of days, while I visit the Canal Museum and surrounding area.

The map shows the red (outward) journey and the green route back to The Fens. the ble spot is where we are now. Booked into a boatyard for an oild change on Monday - a job I never trust myself with, being such a mechanical dunce. Then it is a short way to the Northampton Arm, down 18 or so locks to the River Nene. It's hard to realise that Moondaisy is almost at the end of her little voyage: a return to dry land has no appeal at all. However, a roof leak in York and a couple of planing jobs which might pay for the next trip (or the roof leak, more likely) call. Still, we are not there yet.

Stoke Bruerne is a canal "honeypot", full of people watching the boats and eating ice cream. there are a few pubs and a cople of gift shops. The one in the useum is marginally less naff than the other. is there a huge warehouse somewhere full of the tat these places sell ? Presumably research shows that nobody wants to buy proper things.......

Nice thatch, shame about the windows......I wonder if they fit Ford escort windows in their Range Rover ?
