Cheers, John - I'm afraid we drank your bottle of pink fizz to celebrate our arrival - we needed it after almost 200 locks in all ( I haven't counted.)I'll buy you another when I see you. H
Well, "Moondaisy" has reached the furthest point from Chester for her little voyage. She is moored in Waltham Abbey - nice little historic town badly hit in WWII when a lot of the historic core was destroyed. Still enough left to make it enjoyable, in spite of the highway engineers' attempts to outdo the Luftwaffe with vast, pointless roundabouts and an absurd amount of tarmac for a very modest amount of traffic.
The mooring is right next to a huge construction site where the whitewater canoeing course will be in the 2012 Olympics. Lots of big machines crawling around. The scale of construction for the Games is enormous - and a good thing too, as not much else is being built at the mom
Time to give the boat a really good clean-up, finish painting the deck, re-fill the lockers and get the laundry situation under control . Crew#5 departed at 7.30 this morning (he only lives about 5 miles away and got a lift) to tend his plants.
My brother James flies in from Norway for the trip back into London on 11th - Stanstead is just around the corner from here. He will probably be shocked at the scenery until we reach the more interesting parts of London ! We have tickets for a late-night Stan Tracey Prom at the Albert Hall, so that should compensate.
See you on 11th
