Crew ~5 (my brother) flew in from Norway yesterday. we met at the truly vile M25 truckstop - all the reason you need not to live in England. Waltham Abbey provided a sensational (in many respects) curry and this morning we set off for Victoria Park. however, the "towpath telegraph " said that the moorings there were full up, so we stopped instead at the Middlesex Filter Beds Nature Reserve - a wonderful spot, which until fairly recently filtered water for parts of London. There were also mills on the site as well as timber yards and a needle factory..... Now there are
acres of trees, wetland and walks.
Crew #5 catches up on the Norwegian papers......
You can just see the top of canary Wharf to thr right of the tower block.
Hard to imagine this was an industrial site not long ago. It's delightful

But some vintage filth - perhaps time for those handsomely paid B.W. Directors at head office to get off their butts and drive some of the machinery they can't aford to use to keep the canals nice. They got their bonuses last year - so let's see them earn them !
The whole Lea Valley regional Park has been a revelation - well managed, well-used, huge, stuffed with wildlife...wonderful. The Springfield Marina - which the Park Authority own and operate, was excellent when we fuelled up there this morning.
The interpretation boards have been excellent throughout and some interesting bits of public art add to the experience.
