21st. Moondaisy moored at "Tixall Wide" - a startlingly beautiful place, once overlooked by Tixall Hall - presumably a vast Elizabethan pile, sadly lost. The gatehouse remains, which itself is pretty wonderful. The canal widens here either because it was already a lake, or because the owner of the Hall wanted a decent stretch of water to overlook. Completely peaceful, with ducks, swans and not much else. A most peaceful night. There is a small surviving wharf with a crane and lock-cottage just before the Wide which is probably the place I would most like to live in all the bits of the world I have seen so far.......
